Drone Show's Brilliant Achievements!Explore how drones can make it snow in Shenzhen in 2022

The much-anticipated 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics opened in Beijing, and the splendid opening ceremony once again demonstrated the imagination and creativity of the Chinese nation. As the only southern coastal city to appear at the opening ceremony, Shenzhen, Guangdong, brought the technical highlights of the "Winter Olympics + Fashion + Technology" drone show and went on a date with the ice and snow with the drone performance team Gaoju Innovation.

Drones make up the icons of the Beijing Winter Olympics

2022 drones slowly rose up, turned into snowflakes, and spread across the night sky of Shenzhen. The drone teams of "Bing Dwen Dwen" and "Shuey Rhon Rhon" arrived, and Shenzhen's blessing for the Winter Olympics was reflected on the "sky curtain" and shone in the night sky.

Speaking of drone formation performances, I believe many people are impressed by the drone performances at major events. So, what are the technical highlights of the Beijing Winter Olympics drone performances?

It was learned from relevant channels that the opening ceremony countdown video and the wonderful drone performances in the ten-city linkage were all from the same drone company in Shenzhen. With these questions, the Gaoju Innovation drone performance team interviewed Li Chenliang, general manager of Gaoju Innovation, which provided drone performances for the Winter Olympics, and explored the behind-the-scenes of the Beijing Winter Olympics drone performances.

Thousands of drones take off, group control is difficult

"Shenzhen used 2022 drones to perform flight shows in the warm-up venues of the Winter Olympics." Li Chenliang said that from the perspective of fleet control, the more drones there are, the higher the requirements for the overall performance of the system.

It is understood that this is not the first time that the drone performance team GOGIUS has used the 2022 drone. In fact, the highest record is 5,164 drones flying at the same time, which is also the current Guinness World Record holder. As the number of clusters increases, the difficulty of controlling large-scale clusters increases, and higher requirements are placed on communication bandwidth and stability. To this end, GOGIUS adopted a distributed system strategy in this Winter Olympics performance to alleviate the problem of excessive data volume. "The advantage of a distributed system is that data is decentralized and processed in a distributed manner, and the failure of any one system will not affect our air show," he said.

Last May, 5,200 drones flew in Longgang, Shenzhen, in tribute to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, which was widely shared on the WeChat Moments of Shenzhen residents. This was one of the brilliant achievements of the drone show . 5,200 drones gathered in the sky, using various lights and images to write a confession for the night party. That flight show broke four Guinness World Records in one fell swoop - the largest number of drone formations was 5,164, the largest number of drone light source images was 5,184, the longest drone show was 26 minutes and 26 seconds, and the largest number of drone show pictures was 88.

The most difficult part is the 3D dynamic performance, even the snowflakes are 3D effects

"In addition to the size of the fleet, the biggest difficulty in drone performance lies in continuous 3D dynamic transformation," said Li Chenliang. The process of drone formation performance generally includes creative design, choreography software production, software simulation, flight equipment import, on-site test flight and other links. And so on. He said that the Winter Olympics adopted continuous 3D dynamic performances, which are more difficult than before. Compared with plane drawings, 3D dynamic flight is actually more difficult. Although there are not many patterns in the Beijing Winter Olympics Air Show, we can find that a small piece of "snowflakes" is a 3D stereoscopic effect. The drone performance team Gao Ju's innovation makes the overall composition of the picture beautiful and delicate, like countless dancing "elves" in the night sky.

The continuous 3D dynamic flight performance will undoubtedly put forward higher requirements for the flight accuracy and stability of the drone, but it is also one of the technical highlights of the drone exhibition. In the 2018 Spring Festival Gala, the "dolphin" that crossed the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was also a drone formation from Gaoju Innovation. The "dolphin" in 3D stereoscopic shape is exquisite and agile, presenting a shocking visual effect, and also opened up the industry's first 3D stereoscopic dynamic performance.
